HR201: Labor Law Update Seminar

Prepare for 2009 with this seminar about the new laws and regulations taking effect throughout the year.  After just one half-day session (8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.), you'll know how to apply the latest legislation and understand updated guidelines related to FMLA amendments, cell phone and texting, same-sex marriage, meal and rest periods, ADA and more.

Cancellations received 10 or more business days prior to the seminar are subject to a $50.00 registration service charge. You will also learn about the regulations and case law that you, as an employer, should be aware of in the coming year. This class is an advanced seminar. Those who are new to HR or need a refresher should attend HR 102 first.

  • HR 201: Labor Law Update is for HR professionals and attorneys who need to ensure that their employment law knowledge remains at its highest. 
  •  Our team of experts keeps current with the law, and this course is an accumulation of all their knowledge, training, and counsel on all legislative changes and court decisions that will impact your business in the coming year. 
  • The many case law examples will give attendees a look into how the law can affect businesses and employment law processes and programs that are similar to theirs.

  • In addition to this presentation, attendees will receive a print out over 80 pages long of all relevant case law and statutory and regulatory changes that may impact your business in 2009.

CalChamber Presenters:

Jessica Hawthorne, Employment Law Counsel and Helpline Consultant for CalChamber, editor of HR Handbook for California Employers, and writes employment law articles for HRCalifornia.com, and HRCaliforniaExtra. As lead subject matter expert, she serves an integral role in the product development of labor and employment law books and training.

Susan Kemp, Senior Employment Law Counsel and Helpline Manager for CalChamber, has written and edited several CalChamber publications on topics such as employee handbooks, sexual harassment investigations, family and medical leave and exempt/non-exempt employees.

Erika Frank, General Counsel and head of the Legal Affairs Department for CalChamber, has lobbied the legislative and executive branches on taxation, civil litigation and lawsuit abuse issues, and submitted briefs on cases affecting workers' compensation and litigation reform, and employee relations.
