Privacy Policy

Your privacy is important to us. We pledge to act in a responsible manner with any information you provide us in conjunction with your use of our Web sites. This privacy policy applies to all California Chamber of Commerce Web sites, including HRCalifornia.com, CalBizCentral.com, and CalChamber.com.

To enhance your overall experience, there may be times when it is necessary for us to gather information from you that is considered private and personal. We want you to understand the terms and conditions relevant to the collection and use of that information. Our Web site privacy policy tells you what information we gather, how we use it and how to correct or change it.

Information Collection

The California Chamber of Commerce Web sites collect two types of information:

Account Information

If you become a member of the California Chamber of Commerce, you will be required to submit certain information for billing, account activation, order confirmation and tracking, statistical analysis and to inform you of California Chamber of Commerce products, services and special offers. This information may include your company name, your personal full name, company address, phone number and credit card or bank draft information.

This information will not be released without authorization from you and we will not disclose personal identification information outside of the California Chamber of Commerce and/or its agents.

Member Activity Data

Member activity data are gathered through several methods, and are tracked in the aggregate among all members rather than individually. By tracking member activity data, the California Chamber of Commerce can build the most effective service for all members. For example, we examine how well sections of the Web site perform based on the amount of traffic they receive, and make modifications to elevate the visibility of pages we determine to be of interest. Thus, evaluating user traffic helps us build the kind of service you want.

In certain instances, it may be necessary to disclose such aggregated member activity data to third parties such as our partners.

Information Usage

We only use personal information that has been voluntarily provided by you. The information is used to enhance your Web site experience by helping us identify areas of our sites and services that are effective or in need of improvement.

We will not disclose any business personal information that identifies you to any third party without your consent unless we clearly define the nature and manner of disclosure or disclosure is legally required or to protect our rights. If you unsubscribe to any of our e-mails, your name will be included on appropriate do-not-e-mail lists.

Promotional Offerings

Your personal information may be required to participate in certain promotional offerings. Participation in these promotions is voluntary and all promotions comply with United States federal and state laws.

Member Services

As a member of the California Chamber of Commerce, we ask that you provide certain information to use our Web site services, such as your e-mail and mailing addresses. When using these services, we may ask you for your name and password, company address, zip code and/or title. This information may be shared with our Web site service providers.

For example, we share your password information with our e-mail service provider to retrieve your password when necessary. Because we are concerned for the privacy and safety of your personal information, we use high-level encryption methods when sending data to all of our service providers. This is only used to retrieve your password as necessary.

Search Terms

In order to evaluate our members' interests, we track search queries to our Web sites. We also track and share aggregated demographic information and Web site traffic statistics with our partners.

Cookies and Tracking

Web sites commonly write small data files (cookies) to your hard drive during your visits to the site. These files are used to track your traffic patterns on a particular site and contain information that can anonymously identify you.

California Chamber Web sites measure the activity of our Web sites by using cookies. We encrypt this information for security purposes. Cookies help us improve our Web sites so you can have a pleasant and productive experience. Cookies also allow you to use Web site services without having to resubmit your full data each time you log on. Cookies provide an identity for your computer and also allow access to members-only features of our sites.

Cookies are created to identify your computer when visiting our site and are never used to identify you personally. Cookies can't read data off your hard disk, damage your hard disk or memory or read cookie files created by other sites. You can set your browser to send you a warning message before accepting cookies or to refuse cookies. Check with your browser for instructions on how to handle cookies. Cookies for our Web sites are not hidden, so you may clear them if you wish.

Partners

Your personal information is not released to anyone outside of the California Chamber of Commerce except in limited circumstances where you have given your consent. For instance, the personal information you provide during registration to a clearly identified partner or content provider will only be shared with that partner. Since we cannot control the practices of other partners, the California Chamber of Commerce urges you to contact those partners directly by visiting their Web sites and reading their privacy policies.

Please be aware that links to other sites within our Web sites may not follow the same privacy policy as we do. These links may take you away from our Web sites and into other sites altogether. For example, you may enter the Web site of a partner who may have authorization to use our Web site logos and/or styles as part of a co-branding agreement. Under these circumstances, they may send their own cookies to you. Their cookies may collect personal information and data that the California Chamber does not require.

Notification of Privacy Changes

The California Chamber of Commerce reserves the right to change this privacy policy at any time. When changes are made they will be posted to the Web site immediately.

E-Commerce Areas & Partner Sites

Information requested by the California Chamber of Commerce and its Web sites is provided and approved by you. Information requested by other firms, organizations, linked Web sites and partner sites reached through any California Chamber of Commerce Web site but not controlled by the California Chamber of Commerce is provided on a voluntary basis by you. Affiliate online merchants have privacy and data collection practices of their own. Please consult the partner's home page for the company profile, which will detail their practices. The California Chamber of Commerce, HRCalifornia.com, CalBizCentral.com, and CalChamber.com (as well as any other California Chamber Web site) DO NOT HAVE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PRACTICES OF FIRMS, WEB SITES AND/OR PARTNER SITES NOT OWNED BY THE CALIFORNIA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

Information Security

Credit Card Data

We recognize your concerns about Web commerce and transactions using bank and credit card information. We are committed to keeping personal information secure during commerce transactions. Our Web sites use SSL encryption with all direct transactions that involve credit card or banking information. This process allows us to send your credit card number and personal data over the Internet securely.

These encrypted data files are securely stored on California Chamber of Commerce-owned servers. Once encrypted, only the credit card's authorization company has the ability to decrypt it. The California Chamber of Commerce never displays your credit card number online. In addition, we store any personal information you submitted to us (for example, your company address, e-mail and billing information) on our secure server. Our server is tightly monitored and controlled. Only those with proper authorization have access to this information.

Browser Security Indicator

Most areas within California Chamber e-commerce use SSL encryption. However, we cannot manage or control the level of security used by the partners associated with, but not controlled by, the California Chamber of Commerce. Therefore, we are not responsible for your transactions with our partners.

There are significant performance issues with SSL encryption when you are in the browser environment. The California Chamber may place SSL encryption on only those forms, pages and frames that require it. Framed pages (those having multiple windows) will only show "KEY" or "LOCK" if each and every page is SSL-encrypted. Therefore, if only one frame is encrypted, the browser will report that some pages are not locked. This does not mean that your information is not encrypted, but HRCalifornia.com cannot guarantee it.

To verify that framed pages are SSL-encrypted, you can verify by right-clicking within the frame and looking at the frame properties (found in the "View" menu in Netscape and the "File" menu in Internet Explorer).

Choosing Not to Submit Personal Information

Our Web sites give you the opportunity to choose not to submit personal information in certain circumstances. You can choose not to participate in some areas, but be aware that this will severely limit the amount and quality of information you can access on our sites.

Changing Member Information

As a member of the California Chamber of Commerce, you have the ability to correct or change the information you provided during registration. You may change this information at any time and whenever necessary. Please contact us by phone at (800) 331-8877 with such a request.
