Internet-based recruiting is an integral part of the recruiting process for most employers in today's business environment. Studies show its popularity continues to increase with employers and employees alike. Whether posting career opportunities within your company on your own Web site or using outside sources such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com, employers have a variety of resources available to them that weren't available just 10 years ago. Some of the different options available:

Using your own Web site. Using your own Web site to recruit is an excellent and inexpensive way to provide prospective candidates with information about a position and additional information about your company. Unfortunately, without using outside commercial Web sites to drive candidates to your site, most are unlikely to discover your posting on their own. Most employers use a combination of both.

Using commercial Web sites. Commercial Web sites provide employers with additional avenues to reach candidates that traditional classified ads and company Web sites lack. There are a variety of sites to choose from depending upon your needs, such as:

  • Careerbuilder.com. Careerbuilder.com is a highly recognized job site. It allows both job seekers and employers to search and post jobs and resumes.
  • Monster.com. Monster.com's employer site allows employers to post jobs and find candidates by searching resumes. The employee site allows potential employees to post resumes and search for jobs based on keywords, geography and job category.
  • Yahoo! Hotjobs.com. Hotjobs.com, now operating in conjunction with Yahoo!, is another highly recognized job site. It is similar to Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com in that employers can search for qualified applicants and vice versa.
  • Craigslist.org. Craigslist is another resource that has become extremely popular in the past five years. Employers can post jobs by category, geographical location and keyword.

Online newspapers. Online newspapers are another helpful Internet hiring tool. Many provide their classified listings in searchable formats, such as these national papers:
